Leadership Summer Course in the UK

A residential leadership summer course for students aged 11-18, with 15 hours of leadership learning each week. Students work through practical challenges that build communication, teamwork, decision-making and confidence.

Rather than learning about leadership in theory, students take on real tasks, work with others and learn how to present ideas, solve problems and make decisions as a team.

  • Public speaking and presentation skills

  • Decision-making under pressure
  • Problem-solving

By working through practical challenges with other students, participants learn how to listen, contribute ideas, take responsibility and adapt when plans change.

A Leadership Lesson – Building the Base

Week one of Mission: Mars begins with a practical leadership challenge. Students work together to build and govern a new base, making decisions, setting priorities and responding when things go wrong. The exercise combines communication, teamwork, negotiation, decision-making and problem-solving in one practical leadership challenge.

  1. Who are we?

Each base decides what it wants to stand for – from innovation and safety to cooperation and resilience – and creates a simple identity that communicates those priorities.

  2. Writing the rules

Students agree a small set of clear, fair and enforceable rules, then test whether those rules would actually work in practice.

  3. Responding to crises

The group is given challenges such as limited resources, damaged equipment or changing conditions and must decide how to respond as a team.

  4. Refine it, then defend it

Students review their decisions, improve their rules and present their approach to the other teams, explaining and defending the choices they made.
